Put a Feather in Your Cap…and on Your Fall Dress and Top! Feathers – Fall 2017 Fashion Trend #7
Fashionable feathers are not a new concept. The novel fact is that feathers have become ubiquitous this fall. Native Americans historically used feathers for ornamentation in headdresses. In 16th-century Europe, feathers were used to embellish masks. These embellished masks, that were traditionally designed for aristocratic use, eventually began to enter the mainstream. Fast-forward a few centuries to the 1920s, and feathers could be seen dominating the fashion of the flapper era. During this era, entertainers, and regular fashionable citizens alike, wore dresses adorned with feathers and feathered boas to complete the look.
So how are feathers used in fashion in the Fall of 2017? Designers such as Calvin Klein, Sonia Rykiel, J.W. Anderson, Prada, Michael Kors, and Pucci all showcased the feathered look on their fall runways. Feathers are used to add character, glamour, and spontaneous spirit to a variety of clothing items. Whether added as a an adornment to the hem of a dress or used as the main material in a fall clothing item – feathers are all the rage this season!
