As Clear as a Bell…Sleeve – Fall 2017 Fashion Trend #1
2017 meets the 1970s. The bell sleeve trend is one that you will see during the Fall of 2017. If this trend doesn’t seem new – you’re right. The trend has its most recent prominent roots in the 1970s (and it did morph and resurface briefly in the early 2000s).
1970’s Bell Sleeve
It’s all about the flare! Whether you remember or have been told stories by those who lived through it – the 1970s were filled with flare. With every passing year, pants were flaring wider and wider. It was typical for a pair of women’s wide-flare pants to be close to 3 feet around the bottom of the leg. The flare expanded into bell bottoms and this trend wasn’t limited to pants. Sleeves of shirts and blouses were touched with flare as well – enter the bell sleeve. Stevie Nicks embodied this look in the 1970s wearing flowing bell sleeves on stage. Although the bell sleeve trend is still in existence the fashion times have changed 🙂
2000’s Bell Sleeve
The bell sleeve also enjoyed a brief resurfacing in the early 2000’s. Many pop stars at the time – Brittany Spears and Kelly Clarkson to name just a few – sported this look. Sweaters or blouses would often have sleeves with ruffled flare at the elbow.
