Flapper

A new type of woman evolved in the 1920s –   she was bold – drinking, cutting her hair short, dancing, and taking risks – a flapper.  A flapper represented a big change from the traditional female stereotype- she presented herself differently – with drastically different hair and style. The goal was freedom and fun.

The beatnik movement, which was comprised of a group of people living in San Francisco who thought outside-the-box, was the predecessor to the hippie movement.
